Minister Retires
Rev. Brian Wilkinson retired on 30th April 2007 after a term of ministry of 14 years in Glenaray and Inveraray. Brian was very involved in the community, not just in church circles but in other community organisations including the Neil Munro Society, the History Society and his favourite, the Shinty Club where he is President.
He and Jan will be missed for the work they have done in the town, and the congregation and community remembered this work with a special Ceilidh in the Community Hall on Friday 27th April when a 'full house' gave them a resounding send off.
Local historian, Rae McGregor, penned a poem for the occasion:-
The Minister's Flitting
I took a stroll yin efternoon around the suburbs o' the toon
And wandering doon the Barn Brae I turned right, and made my way
Along the shore and just by chance I took the path up tae the manse.
In my mind I saw the Reverent Buddy relaxing snugly in his study
And I'd nae doot he'd welcome me and shout tae Jan to bring in tea
Then in oor chairs we'd settle back and spend an hour or two in crack.
I chapped the door and in I gaed; my hope o' tea began tae fade,
There was his wife, puir body, sittin' right in the middle o' the flittin'
Sure enough she welcomed me "It's you I'm very glad tae see
Come you wi' me richt up the stairs and help me carry doon these chairs"
Some wardrobes and a wheen o' beds and several hundred odds and ends.
We rolled up carpets, pulled up rugs, packed linen, crockery and jugs
We took the pictures aff the hooks and boxed at least a million books
At last we stopped to get a breath and give oor aching backs some ease
And then I got the time tae say "is the minister no' at home the day"?
And then with fingers to her lips, oot through the kitchen door she slips
And beckoning me tae follow o'er she rapped upon the study door
She tried the handle ----it was locked, but in letters three feet high were chalked
I MUST not be disturbed at all. Not even if the elders call!!
Gosh me, says I, the puir wee soul, he's maybe filling his dole
Or studying a set o' rules tae get a wee win on the pool
No, no, says she, just stop your chatter and I'll explain the wretched matter
For I'm afraid the awful strain will permanently affect his brain
Within the precincts o' that room he's studying a learned tomb
Wi' hair on end and sleeves rolled up, the tea grown stone cold in the cup
And muttering at an awful rate tae try and help him concentrate
He's never left that book for ages, his nose deep buried in it's pages
It's the finest volume ever written on an easy way tae have a flitting!
RMG April 2007
Brian and Jan are moving to Taynault and Brian will keep up his connection with the shinty club.

The Glory Hole Summer Exhibition and Fair - 2006
|
Last summer the exhibition again returned a health figure with more visitors spending their money. The proceeds produced around £6500.
The Church very much depends on the income from the two month sale to support the work of the Church throughout the year.
Thanks to all who have helped in any way both in providing the volunteer 240 hours of manning the sale in addition to the time in setting up and packing away the tables and goods.

Camanachd Cup on Display
On Sunday 26th September 2004, the congregation had something spectacular to look at.
The Inveraray Shinty Team won the Camanachd Cup the day before and the cup was given to the Church to display during the morning service.
The Minister, Rev. Brian Wilkinson is the chairman of the Shinty Club and with all the shouting and cheering from the previous day managed to find just enough voice to last the length of the service.
Congratulations to the Boys on this marvellous achievement, the first time since 1930.

New Elders Ordained and Admitted
Sunday 19th September 2004 saw the ordination of three new elders. James McKirdy, Janette McCheyne and Ealasaid Mackay were ordained and admitted along with Stuart Kidd who was previously ordained at Chryston Parish Church. All four received the right hand of fellowship and a welcome to their new duties within the work of the Church and the Parish.

He was baptised 'Archie Frederick' and the photo was taken after the service with his proud Mum and Dad, Eleanor and Torquhil.

Visitors from Germany
On Sunday 15th August 2004, the Church was busier than usual when a tour coach from Germany arrived with a group of German tourists. The service was conducted by the Rev.Stanley Hood who was standing in for the minister who was holidaying in Ireland.
The group enjoyed a chat over a cup of tea after the service before setting off for a visit to the Castle.
