Shinty committee reformed The Mid Argyll area shinty committee has been reformed following a break of six years. The Area Committee's role is to be proactive in the development of shinty, mainly at a youth level, within Mid Argyll. This involves development of skills, support and training of players and coaches and organisation of competitions. It is also a working group, sounding board and support and advice system for those people already working in shinty. Meetings in September and October unveiled various issues in modern shinty, particularly the problems of lots of people involved the game, but only a few of them doing all the hard organisational, fund-raising and development work. Camanachd Association Development Officer Garry Reid and Coaching Convenor John McKenzie encouraged the reformation of the committee and explained that by uniting in this way, all of Mid Argyll's clubs can work together to access funds and plan tournament's and leagues. The committee will have the full support of The Camanachd Association and new members are now being sought and past members to return with ideas of what is needed for the development of shinty in MidArgyll, being encouraged to return. The chairman of the committee is Duncan Crawford of Inveraray, Secretary is Lynn Kidd of Inveraray and the treasurer is Donella Crawford of Lochgilphead. | |
