The Story of Stepps
Community Organisations Choral Society
The Stepps Choral Society was formed during the early 1920s under the direction of Mr Charles Rigg. There was a membership of around 50. Concerts were given locally and further afield, over a period of some fifteen years. The Society was re-formed in 1973, under the direction of the Rev. F.Muir, as the Stepps & District Choral Society, with a membership of about 40. It presented two public concerts each year, including one of Christmas carols. In 1977 it took part in a Festival of Song in Kirkintilloch Town Hall, in aid of the Queen's Jubilee Appeal. It was discontinued the following year, for want of "male voices".
