The Story of Stepps

Community Organisations
Dramatic Club

In 1947 the Whitehill Dramatic Club was formed by members of Whitehill Parish Church Young Men & Women's Guild. It soon gained distinction in the Area Drama Festival. In April 1950, to attract a wider membership, its name was changed to "Stepps & District Amateur Dramatic Club". A Junior Section was formed in 1952. Under the direction of Mr George Crossan the Senior Section took part in the Youth Service Scheme Drama Festivals (Local Panel No. 7) over the years 1951-54. In the years 1951 and 1953 they were placed first, in competition. Their performances received high credits. During these years the club also gave performances in the Public Hall, the producers being George Crossan, Andrew Park and Graeme Miller Jr. The club ceased to function in the early 1960s.
