The Story of Stepps

Community Organisations
Recorder Consort

The Stepps Recorder Consort was formed in 1974 by the late James Allan, to provide a local opportunity for practical and collective music-making. Over the years it has given public performances at a range of venues, both local and otherwise, including churches, schools and arts guilds, and at events at a variety of locations, such as Haggs Castle, Glasgow Cathedral and the Glasgow Garden Festival (1988). Highlights have included performances at the Burns Presentation in the Glasgow City Halls during the Year of Culture (1990), and at the Burrell Gallery on the fringe of the biennial International Early Music Festival. The number of first-places and trophies gained at festivals is now around the 200 mark, demonstrating that the Stepps Consort is one of the best instrumental ensembles of its kind in Scotland. The Junior Consort nowadays provides foyer music at some of the group's performances.
